Phishing and Spam Protection FAQ

Last updated: June 2026

The Cyber Security Team at Business Techs provides phishing and spam protection to help keep Southern Idaho organizations protected from attackers. This page answers the most common questions about the INKY email protection banners you may see in your inbox.

What the banner colors mean

INKY adds a color-coded banner to the top of incoming messages. The banner shows the sender's address, notes whether the email is internal or external, and gives you a quick read on how much to trust the message.

  • Gray banner: no unusual or suspicious content was detected, though you should still confirm a sender is who they claim to be before acting on a request.
  • Yellow banner: something unusual was found. It is not necessarily dangerous, but it warrants caution, for example a message asking for sensitive information.
  • Red banner: INKY believes the message is likely phishing or otherwise dangerous, such as a brand impersonation or a spoofed address.

Frequently asked questions

INKY is an email protection product that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to analyze incoming messages for signs of phishing, spam, and other email-based threats.

The color-coded banners are inserted by INKY to alert you to possible threats. They display the sender's address and indicate whether an email is internal or external. Their presence means the Business Techs IT team has deployed INKY for your organization.

In most cases you can simply delete the message. Business Techs may also configure your mail server to quarantine or delete red-flagged mail before it reaches you, though some may still arrive with a warning so you stay aware of it.

It lets you classify a message as Safe, Spam, or Phishing and add a comment. Your feedback improves INKY's predictions and is reviewed by the Business Techs security team.

INKY checks links in real time when you click them. If a link looks suspicious you may see a blocker page, even on a message that originally had a gray banner.

Contact your Cyber Security Team at Business Techs. We can review and adjust INKY policies and settings for your organization.
